What a cool take on the pantheon and its many intersecting threads of intrigue.
I really dig this: "Ares collapsed onto the couch, spewing every profanity he knew. Considering how many languages he’d taken it upon himself to master—the swear-words, at least—the filth flowed for a length of time that even impressed him. It earned him a standing ovation from every direction. He tossed his head, devouring the waves of glorification like a feast after battle—or this case, before it—then proceeded to drown himself in drink while he could."
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! The over-arcing serial is Persephone & Haides, but i got really curious about who they were before they got together. And how this union impacted everything/everybody else.
The more I played with it, the more I realized how fascinating all those threads were. Just how many of the side tales and lesser known canon were influenced by this relationship, and how many of their dysfunctional family would have influenced their connection. Or the intent to break it. 😈
And of course…my own psyche and imagination needing to speak through fiction. 🙃
Wahooo! How is it, BTW coming in at this point in the story? Since it’s serial, not in a book, I’m always wrestling with the balance between giving enough context but not getting bogged down with explanations for those who have been here from the start.
You know, I was impressed by how much context I could assume. I will have to read from the beginning to fully understand, of course, but I found that I had a good enough sense of Ares and his predicaments to anchor my reading.
I think you do a good job of capturing attention while also stoking a desire to go back. This is so tough to do in a serial presentation, but I found myself whipsawed between knowing I should start from the beginning and wanting to continue with the current chapter anyway.

You do such a good job of maintaining tension. Very compelling chapter. I appreciate the bits of humour as well. Will look forward to reading more!
