Persephone in a singed flower crown about to take a bite of a pomegranate. Half of it is rotten; half of it is fresh, just like half her face is Blossomtime fresh and the other is the Dread Queen of the Underworld

Have you ever wondered who Persephone & Haides were before that infamous snatching? I did. In fact, I wondered about it so much I wrote a novel about it. That novel gave birth to another. Those books had babies, because a few of our side characters demanded their own novellas. Dionysos, Eros & Eris, specifically. (Any surprise?)

This space is still under construction, but it will eventually has begun to house the serialization of:

Persephone & Haides. We know that old tale—or do we? Because the Goddess of Love has a problem. Commerce, domination and war have begun to rule the Cosmos, leaving Love on the wane. That’s all right. The rapscallion God of Love has a super-duper awesome solution! Let’s orchestrate a love-match across the barrier separating Above from Below, and spark ne…

Oh, you don’t know who Persephone & Haides are?

Okay, I’ll give you a taste of this ancient myth. I mean, what harm could ever come from a teensy little taste?

PERSEPHONE: Bringer of Blossomtime, the only daughter of Demeter & Zeus
DEMETER: Earth Mother, Queen of the Harvest
ZEUS: Master of Order, Law & Lightning, King On High, Lord of Olympos
HAIDES: Lord of the Underworld, King of the Dead

Haides became infatuated with Persephone; she became infatuated with the mysterious god she sensed watching her through the sacred spring.

Just one problem: she lived beyond the impassable barrier that separates the Lands of the Dead from the Upper Realms.

Okay, two problems. Persephone’s mother, Demeter—once Haides’ cherished ally—had come to revile him more than almost every other being in the Cosmos. When he received permission from the girl’s father to marry her, Haides knew that the only way to get the Bringer of Blossomtime out from under her mother’s over-protective mantle was to steal her.

So he did.

It took assistance from a slew of gods, titans, monsters and primordials, but Haides cracked open the earth, dragged the terrified, screaming girl into his chariot, and snatched her into the Lands of the Dead. While there, she ate six pomegranate seeds, which bound her to the Underworld for all time.

Some say that evil, wicked Haides tricked her into eating them. Others say he forced her. Still others are adamant that she swallowed those seeds enthusiastically—willfully, rebelliously, even—so she could stay with the glorious, misunderstood god she had grown to love.

Well, no matter how or why, she ate them and that’s a fact nobody Above or Below disagrees about.

Alas. Earth Mother’s despair and wrath over the loss of her daughter plunged the world into famine, death, destruction, and a horror that had never happened before: WINTER.

So how did we ever get Springtime?

I guess you’ll have to subscribe to find out!
